A Final Curtain Call for Chiltern Musical Theatre

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the closure of Chiltern Musical Theatre. This has not been an easy decision, and we want our supporters to know that we have tried everything we could to keep going.
The reality is that, in today’s economic climate, with so many other hobbies and commitments competing for people’s time, it has become harder and harder to attract and retain members. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to find enough committee members to share the workload, leaving just a handful of people trying to carry the burden of running productions. Sadly, this simply became unsustainable.
Although we had found a wonderful theatre to partner with, the challenges of staging large-scale musicals — from casting difficulties and staging requirements to the rising costs of production — left us with very few realistic options. While our original shows were warmly received, audience numbers continued to dwindle, and our costs soon outstripped our income.
We are heartbroken to say goodbye to something we have loved so deeply, but the time has come to accept that we can no longer continue to struggle against the odds.
To all those who have supported us, cheered us on, and stood by us over the years — thank you. Your encouragement and loyalty have meant the world, and we will always treasure the memories we’ve made together.
And so, Chiltern Musical Theatre takes its final bow — not to a standing ovation, but with gratitude for everyone who helped us along the way.
We've put on dozens of shows over the years, from well-known west-end giants such as Oklahoma, Barnum, and Hello Dolly, to those written by members of the society. Recently, however, we found ourselves without the finance to put on the known shows as they cost thousands to produce, so we were forced to do revues and home-written shows.
